March 2016 Newsletter

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and your family from Greenhalgh Legal Services!

This Month’s Reminders.  Don’t forget that Central Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016! Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour on the evening of Saturday, March 12, 2016 so you don’t miss church!   Also, don’t forget that in addition to your Form 1040 and Form 1 federal and state income tax returns, you need to file a Form 709 United States Gift Tax Return by April 15, 2016 for gifts made to any individuals in excess of $14,000.00 during the calendar year 2015.  If you have made such gifts and need help in completing this Form, please contact us right away at (608) 355-0907.

Sending of Gifts. Be sure to consult with us before making any charitable gifting so we can help you maximize all the tax advantages which may attach to your gift.  For example, did you know that when you donate appreciated securities like stocks and bonds to a charity you get a deduction for  their current fair market value on your tax returns?  Did you also know that charities pay no income taxes on distributions from IRAs?  Before deciding on any significant gifts to charities, call us at (608) 355-0907 so you get the most bang for the buck on your philanthropic actions!
